Apex Legends Season 17 is still several weeks away, but we already have a pretty clear idea of what Respawn and Respawn Vancouver are cooking up thanks to various leaks. According to noted Apex insider Thordan Smash, one of the highlights of the next season will be the new “Rumble Royal” mode (hopefully WWE doesn’t have an issue with that name).
Per earlier leaks, this Rumble mode will strip away a lot of the extra rules and fluff usually found in a regular Apex Legends game – there will be no squads, no abilities, no loadouts, and essentially no rules. Instead, players will be able to grab limited-time pickups that do things like increase movement or provide cloaking in order to get the advantage. Sounds like a pretty fun free-for-all, and something for players who have been asking for a new solo mode.
Meanwhile, more evidence has emerged that our next new Legend will indeed be Ballistic. This was teased in one of the magazines strewn around the game, which shows a distinct silhouette that matches leaked images of Ballistic we’ve seen previously (he’s the guy with slicked-back hair and round, red glasses).
For those who missed out on the previous round of leaks, Ballistic is an “arms dealer,” who looks a bit like Walter White. As for his abilities, it seems he can both buff allies and debuff opponents. His Ultimate will temporarily give allies unlimited ammo, faster reloads, and more, while his Tactical allows him to shoot a “Smart Bullet” that will cause an opponent’s gun to overheat and backfire, dealing them damage. Here’s a more detailed rundown of his abilities:
Passive
- Weapon Sling - A sling where you can store a third weapon. The sling weapon cannot take attachments.
Tactical
- Smart Bullet - Shoots a projectile that debuffs the enemy. Enemy guns will start to heat up as they shoot. Overheating will cause a reaction and deal damage. Holding the tactical will allow it to lock on to a target.
Ultimate
- Weapon Enhancer - When activated, nearby teammates get a buff applied. It gives faster reloads, unarmed move speed, and infinite ammo. Ballistic's sling weapon will be equipped and upgraded to gold.
Of course, take this all with a grain of salt for now. It does seem like Ballistic is our S17 Legend, but the specifics of their abilities may have changed (Respawn likes to tinker with them a lot in development).
Apex Legends can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Switch. Season 17 should launch sometime in May.
