AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS “Phoenix” 8 Core CPU Benchmarks Show Up To 25% Faster Performance Versus Ryzen 7 6800H

The first benchmarks of AMD's Ryzen 7 7840HS "Phoenix" CPU which is designed for mainstream laptops have been leaked and show a nice gain over its predecessor.

AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS "Phoenix" CPU Is 25% Faster Than Ryzen 7 6800H "Rembrandt" In Leaked Cinebench Benchmarks

Yesterday, we got to see the first benchmarks of AMD's Ryzen 9 7940HS "Phoenix" CPU and now, we are getting the first taste of Phoenix Ryzen 7 CPUs. The CPU tested here is the Ryzen 7 7840HS which packs the brand new Zen 4 core architecture. The chip houses 8 cores and 16 threads which is the maximum core count for Phoenix CPUs. The chip also houses 8 MB of L2 cache and 16 MB of L3 cache so besides the architectural changes, there isn't much going on to the overall core config.

For those who want more cores and cache, they should look forward to AMD's Ryzen 7045 Dragon Range lineup which offers up to 16 cores and 32 threads with loads of cache. The Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU features slightly lower clock speeds than the 7940HS at 3.8 GHz base and 5.1 GHz boost clock. The CPU retains the same 35-54W TDP design seen on the other Phoenix parts. The integrated GPU is an AMD Radeon 780M chip based on the RDNA 3 architecture and offers 12 compute units with a 2.9 GHz clock.

The performance of the chip has been evaluated within the Cinebench R23 benchmark. Now it is very important to know what laptop was used here and what the memory configuration and thermal/power limits were like on the specific platform. However, leaker Golden Pig Upgrade over at Bilibili, has shared no information in that regards so the final CPU performance you get will be based entirely on the specific laptop you are getting.

Credit to Jarrod's Tech for sharing the Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU performance figures a few days back!

The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU scored 16854 points in the multi-core and around 1800 points in the single-core tests in Cinebench R23. The single-core frequency is not listed correctly and as such, the single-core score will be higher than the Multiplier ratio suggested by the benchmark. In multi-core, the CPU provides a 25% boost over its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 6800H and also sits around 15% faster than the fastest Rembrandt chip, the Ryzen 9 6980HX. The CPU also does well against Intel's last gen Core i7 parts and should be able to outperform or be close to Intel's 13th Gen Core i5 CPU offerings.

The AMD's Ryzen 7040 "Phoenix" APUs will launch later this quarter in various flavors and laptop options. Additionally, these chips are expected to retain all of their Radeon-exclusive features such as raytracing, FSR, RSR, and other tech support when the laptops hit shelves in March this year.
