Suppose people find it difficult to hear you while you or on a video conferencing session or a Zoom or Skype call. There is a possibility that there may be something wrong with the PC or headphone’s microphone. In this tutorial, I will address how to adjust Windows 10 Microphone volume. We will go through three different methods that you can try any issue with the microphone, and hopefully, after that, you will sound much clearer during your calls.
Adjust Windows 10 Microphone
If you are using the in-built mic on your PC, then you have to adjust the PC mic. If, however, you are using the headset mic, then you will adjust the settings accordingly.
Settings
- Right-click on the volume icon on your taskbar.
- Select Open Sound settings.
- If you are using headphones or an external microphone, you have to select that device. In the Input section, there is a drop-down menu – Choose your input device. Select the relevant option.
- Now, select the Device properties option.
- Use the slider to adjust the microphone volume.
- You can also test the volume by clicking on Start test. After you are done, select Stop test.
Control Panel
You can also use the Control Panel to adjust the microphone volume settings.
Step-1: Go to the Start menu and type Control Panel. Click Open.
Step-2: Click on Hardware and Sound.
Step-3: Under the Sound section, select Manage audio devices.
Step-4: Select the Recording tab.
Step-5: Click on the device you want to adjust the volume for [I will select the Microphone Array, the built-in mic on my PC] and select Properties.
Step-6: Select the Levels tab.
Step-7: Use the slider to adjust the volume.
Step-8: Make sure that the mic isn’t muted. If the volume icon looks like the image below, click on it to unmute it.
Step-9: Click OK after you are satisfied with the changes.
Adjust Windows 10 Microphone by Updating Driver
Drivers manage your PC audio devices. Some drivers are already preinstalled, and you may need to update them manually. This will help ensure that your device is up to date, and any bugs that are causing issues with adjusting volume will be fixed.
- Right-click on the Start menu to get the WinX menu. (Shortcut keys: Win + X).
- Select Device Manager.
- Double-click on Sound, video, and game controllers to expand the option.
- Right-click on the device/microphone. Select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers. This option will get the most up-to-date driver for your PC if it is needed. Just follow the on-screen instructions.
- Alternatively, for the previous point, you can also select Browse my computer for drivers.
- Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Pick the driver and click Next.
- Your driver will be updated.
