Today we will show you how you can restore (clean install) HomePod mini software using iTunes or Finder on a PC or a Mac.
Here's How You Can Clean Install or Restore the Software on the HomePod mini Using Finder or iTunes on PC / Mac
If you are facing problems with your HomePod mini then it is highly likely that you have run into software related issues. They can be easily fixed with a restore using iTunes or Finder. Yes, that is correct, you can simply plug in your HomePod mini to your PC or Mac with a USB-C cable, wipe everything clean and start fresh if you wanted to.
The process is actually super familiar especially if you restored or clean installed firmware on an iPhone or iPad before. So, before you go ahead, we would like you to read everything that is written below step by step and then proceed on your own. Make sure you get this right, especially if you are doing this for the first time.
Tutorial
Note: You will need a USB-C cable to hook up your HomePod mini with your PC or Mac. You can either use the one that comes with the HomePod mini itself for charging or buy a USB-C to USB-A cable if your PC or Mac does not feature a built-in USB-C port.
Step 1. Disconnect the HomePod mini from power and remove the USB-C cable that is plugged in at the back
Step 2. Using a USB-C cable, connect the HomePod mini to your PC or Mac
Step 3. Launch Finder or iTunes on your PC or Mac (download iTunes from: apple.com/itunes)
Step 4. The HomePod mini will now show up as a connected device in the left hand side pane. Click on the tiny HomePod mini like icon to see the full range of options available for it
Step 5. Now simply click on the Restore HomePod button and follow the on-screen prompts for installation
Step 6. Once the installation is complete, Finder / iTunes will ask you to disconnect your HomePod mini from your PC / Mac and connect it back to its original power source
There is really nothing more to this at all. It is super easy and we are glad that this method of installation is available in case something goes wrong.
Sadly, these steps do not apply to the original HomePod since it does not feature a USB-C port, or any port at all for that matter. If the software goes south, you pretty much have a ruined day in your hands.
