The Kubb Mini PC offers an incredibly unique form factor, being both small and light enough to fit underneath a monitor while not acting as a lead weight sitting on your desk. It comes in a variety of colors allow you to easily match it with your gaming/home office color scheme. In addition to its unique form factor, it comes with some fairly powerful components and various ports, allowing for an external GPU to be easily connected and utilized by this Mini PC.
The Kubb Mini PC offers a unique combination of performance and a stylish form factor, making it ideal for a home office!
Since many office workers have switched to working from home, many have been forced to create home offices in a rush resulting in many utilizing laptops with an external monitor rather than setting up a separate desktop. While this may seem beneficial, laptops can overheat and limit the ergonomics of your setup as they have an included keyboard. To overcome this issue, the Kubb Mini PC offers a smaller form factor that can easily sit on top of your desk.
The outside design of the Mini PC is made using Aluminum and Inox, which allows for the high durability and unique design of the Kubb. The outer casing features a textured design, ensuring that your Mini PC won't be reflecting any sunlight into your eyes during the sunny days at home.
It features a dimension of 12 x 12 x 12 cm, although, with the two antennas installed, the height does rise to 14 cm. This Mini PC features a square design that can fit underneath monitors on the top of the desk with ease. The square design allows for good airflow to the internal components due to the venting holes located on both the rear and the back panel. The square design allows for an additional 2.5" drive to be installed, allowing for expansive storage without the need to connect an external hard drive or SSD.
The rear panel of this PC is the only location to connect your peripherals to the PC. It features five USB ports with two ports featuring the type-C design that allows eGPUs and other devices to be easily connected.
The back panel also features two HDMI 2.0a ports, each supporting a 4K resolution. Thankfully, it comes with a 70 cm HDMI cord, ensuring that this Mini PC offers support for most TVs and PC monitors.
The bottom panel features a 92 mm fan, which does stay relatively quiet even under heavy workloads while still offering high airflow into the internal components. To keep the smaller form factor, Bleujor changed the power supply to be external design.
Internal Components and Performance
The Kubb offers two different models which change the processor, with the first option being the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G, while the second option features the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G.
The AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G features two cores and four threads with a maximum clock speed of 3.50 GHz, while the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B features four cores eight threads with a maximum clock speed of 3.60 GHz. This may seem like a big change, but a bigger change between the model's graphics core count. The Kubb can feature either the Radeon Vega 3 with three GPU cores while the Radeon Vega 8 model has eight GPU cores, although both support up to two 4K displays.
In addition to the upgradable storage, it comes with 8 GB of DDR4 memory, with it being increased up to 32 GB. Allowing for more RAM to be easily installed and utilized in a variety of applications.
While Kubb does offer larger screens even while utilizing the integrated graphics, it does suffer in terms of performance for many games and even some videos. The lack of a dedicated graphics card is very apparent when starting up nearly any modern game. However, alternative use for this Mini PC would be using a cloud gaming service.
Using a cloud gaming service would be an excellent application for this PC if you wanted to play games while keeping your setup minimalistic.
While for normal applications, like Excel, Word, and YouTube, This Mini PC ran great, offering a smooth playback, so long as the video's resolution didn't exceed 1440p on the 35" monitor.
Ease of Setup
It can come with Windows 10 Pro or Linux Mint installed, while having an OS pre-installed makes getting the Kubb setup significantly faster. The Windows 10 Installation was set to French and did require a bit of work to change it back to English for both the displayed text and the keyboard.
Although, after that minor issue, starting up and using the Kubb was as easy as pressing the simple power button and waiting a few seconds for the screen to come to life.
Conclusion
The Kubb Mini PC offers some fantastic performance for a new home office or cloud gaming setup, although you may need to look at a PC with a dedicated graphics card for a dedicated gaming setup.
The Kubb Essential kit features a price range from €579 for the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G model or €679 for the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B model with the Linux Mint OS. In contrast, the Windows 10 Pro version does have a higher price of €749 for the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G model or €849 for the AMD Ryzen the Embedded V1605B model.
