Google Wifi and Nest Wifi are two of the best mesh systems available right now. While they work flawlessly for majority of users out there, but there are certain things about the systems that baffles our mind.
For example, while it is easy to add new access points to the network for expansion, but removing an individual one from the network can be bit of a pain. The Google Home app does not make things easier but today, we will walk you through the process of removing a single access point from your Google Wifi or Nest Wifi network. Read through and you will breathe easy.
Tutorial
Step 1. Launch the Google Home app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device
Step 2. On the main page, find the Wifi point you want to remove / factory reset and tap on it
Step 3. Depending on whether it is a Nest or Google Wifi point, follow the steps below:
- Google Wifi: Tap on the Settings button on the top right hand corner and then tap Factory reset Wifi point
- Nest Wifi: Tap on the Settings button on the top right hand corner, tap on Wi-Fi Settings then tap on Factory reset Wifi point
After a few minutes, the selected Wifi point will be reset and then you can remove it from your network physically. At this point, you can basically just sell or give away the point if you need to.
If you own Google Wifi, things are very simple and up front. But Nest Wifi makes you dig one menu deeper in order to factory reset the point which can be a bit of a pain if you are doing this for the first time.
For those who always wondered if they can remove one access point from their Google or Nest Wifi network, now they know how to do it. Google Home app does not make things easy like I mentioned before, but it is great to know that the core functionality is there in case you need to take your network apart.
