Lauco has announced its new USB-C 12-in-1 hub with Qi wireless charging which features a wide selection of ports including two HDMI, 3 USB 3.1 ports, 2 USB-C ports, microSD, and SD slots, Gigabit Ethernet, and USB-C power delivery. On top of this, you can even place your phone or headphones on the 10W wireless charging surface on the hub. This makes it the ultimate all-in-one solution for users looking for a USB-C hub that does it all.
Package
The Lauco hub ships in a small box with just a small USB-C to USB-C cable, a soft drawstring carrying bag, and some documentation. I'm a fan of the carrying bag because the hub could easily get scratched in a bag otherwise. The small cable might not satisfy everyone's usage but for me, it has been more than enough. I rarely find the need to place the USB-C hub far away from my MacBook.
Technical Specifications
There are two variants of the hub that are listed on Luaco's Kickstarter page. One has 8 ports and is as small as a debit card, while the one we got for review has 12 ports, but it is still smaller than a smartphone.
These are the ports on the 12-in-1 variant:
- 2 HDMI ports with support for 4K at 60Hz.
- 3 USB-A 3.1 gen 2 ports with transfer speeds of 5Gbps
- 2 USB-C 3.0 ports with transfer speeds of 5Gbps
- 1 SD 3.0 UHS-1
- 1 MicroSD 3.0 UHS-1
- 1 Ethernet RJ45 with 1Gbps transfer speed
- 1 USB-C Power Delivery at 100W
- 1 10W wireless charger (this is expected to be upgraded to 15W because the Kickstarter stretch goals have been achieved)
The 8 port variant does not have an Ethernet port and only has 1 HDMI port and 1 USB-A port.
Design and usage
The hub is made of a strong aluminum allow and tempered glass, which means that it can survive a few knocks. It is one of the nicer looking all-in-one hubs I've used, as a few other ones that I've used are usually much larger and not at all about the looks.
Because of one of its Kickstarter stretch goals have been reached, Lauco hub will also be available in light silver color.
In terms of usage, I had absolutely no issues when plugging in every device I had in the hub's ports. There was no issue with any shaky cables or SD cards, and the light on the hub kept me aware when I have it plugged in. Subconsciously, it helped me in unplugging my external hard drive from the OS before pulling it out of the port. It also did not heat up during usage despite connecting multiple devices which includes a monitor, external drive, iPad, iPhone (on the wireless charger), SD card, and MacBook charger. Lauco hub has replaced my older USB-C hub in my travel bag because of its versatility.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a USB-C hub that connects to basically every device that you have, and even provides additional benefits like extra HDMI, USB-A, and USB-C ports, the Lauco Hub is a good choice. If we had to nitpick, perhaps the only thing we would add to the hub would be Thunderbolt support. Apart from that, we highly recommend it for your next purchase.
