Need to disable Home control toggles from Control Center on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 14, iPadOS 14? Here’s how you do it.

Disable the Unnecessary Home Control Toggles from iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 Control Center and Make Things Cleaner and More Normal Again

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 pack a lot of features which we’ve been enjoying since its release. But some things aren’t so great. For example, if you have HomeKit-enabled accessories scattered throughout your house, Apple will throw in a few toggles to control your favorite ones from Control Center by default. Sure, it might seem very convenient to a lot of people as it negates the need to launch the Home app or even invoke Siri to turn off a lamp. But pulling down on Control Center just to see so many toggle switches can be a tad bit intimidating. And extremely cluttered too.

In order to make everything right again, you will be delighted to learn that you can actually turn off the aforementioned Home control toggles, and today’s tutorial is all about that. Pick up your iPhone or iPad and follow through. This process literally takes under thirty seconds.

Tutorial

Step 1. Launch the Settings app from your iPhone or iPad’s home screen.

Step 2. Now tap on Control Center.

Step 3. See that Show Home Controls toggle switch? Turn it OFF.

Step 4. In order to confirm that the change is in effect, just pull down on Control Center from the top right hand corner if you have an iPhone with Face ID, or swipe up from the bottom if you have an iPhone with Touch ID.

Given the amount of HomeKit accessories I have, I left this feature turned on. It’s so easy to simply bypass an entire app, jumping through different rooms just to close one lamp. Sure, Siri is a good option to do that, but sometimes you just want to do things without uttering a word. In that case, the Home Controls option comes in to save the day.

Then again, this feature might not resonate equally with everyone. Just the other day I came across numerous tweets going on about how terrible Control Center looks with the extra switches. Thankfully, there is a way to turn the whole thing off without going through too much trouble.

The one thing I absolutely hate about this feature is that you can’t preview cameras straight from Control Center. For that, you have to open up the Home app. There is still no way around it, unless you ask Siri, which will save you a few taps. Hopefully a future iOS or iPadOS update will address this in some capacity.
