Oppo A9 2020: Specs, Design & Camera Promise Strong Mid-Ranger

The smartphone market’s growth and maturity has led to components being easily available for manufacturers unwilling to solely cater to the high-end market. In fact, most midrange today have adequate features to meet an average person’s needs. Today we’ve got a new mid-range smartphone from Chinese company Oppo that promises to deliver great performance at a budget. The Oppo A9 2020 is official and makes several changes over its predecessor, the standard A9. Take a look below for the details.

Oppo A9 2020 Features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 Processor & Is Available With Either 4GB Or 8GB RAM

Right off of the bat, we’ll start with the A9 2020’s processor. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s freshly launched Snapdragon 665 SoC. This chip features four Kryo 260 Gold and four Kryo 260 Silver cores. The Gold cores are a derivative of ARM’s Cortex A73 design, debuted by the company two years back in 2016. At the time, the A73 was the first to feature ARM’s brand new Cambridge microarchitecture family of chips, the designs of which originated in the city of Sophia-Antipolis, France.

The four Kryo 260 Gold cores are clocked at 2.0GHz while the four Kryo 260 Silver cores are clocked at 1.8GHz and based on A53 derivates. Performance-wise, the Snapdragon 665 scores approximately 110,000 points in Antutu, 1500 in GeekBench single-core and 5500 in GeekBench multi-core. The A9 2020 is available in either 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM.

Moving towards graphics, the device is underpowered when compared to today’s flagship standards. The Snapdragon 665 sits at the lower-end of Qualcomm’s mid-range SoCs, and therefore it has to make compromises. However, since the chip itself is fabricated on the 11nm Low Power Plus, it makes power efficiency gains over the Snapdragon 660 and 630.

The Snapdragon 665’s Adreno 610 GPU provides 20% power efficiency over its predecessor in Vulkan 1.1. It also allows the Oppo A9 2020 to capture 4K video at 30fps. The GPU supports 2520×1080 resolution and scores approximately 2400 points in 3D Mark Slingshot Extreme and 20,000 points in Ice Storm Unlimited. Finally, the A9 2020 also supports Game Boost 2.0. This feature is designed to optimize frame rate and touch inputs.

Oppo’s A9 2020 Features A Quad Rear Camera Setup & Massive 5000mAh Battery

Catering to the camera trend present in the modern-day smartphone world, Oppo’s A9 2020 features a quad camera setup. This consists of a 48MP primary (f/1.8), 8MP ultrawide (f/2.3, 119°) and a pair of 2MP (f/2.4) sensors that will support the other two with depth measurement. Additionally, the smartphone also supports Night Mode 2.0. At its front, you’ll get a 16MP (f/2.0) front camera setup that will utilize software optimizations to enhance photographs in a feature that’s dubbed ‘AI beautification’ by Oppo.

As mentioned above, the A9 2020 is capable of recording 4K video in 120fps. Additionally, the device can also record 1080p and 720p video at 30fps. The front camera sensor on the smartphone will also record 1080p and 720p video at 30fps.

Moving towards design, the smartphone measures 163.6 x 75.6 x 9.1 mm and a glass back. It’s available in Green and Purple variants. The 9.1mm thickness sounds a bit too much, but the device packs a battery with 5000mAh capacity, which should do wonders for life. You also get Bluetooth 5.0 and Wifi5 with the gadget and a fingerprint sensor on the back. The A9 2020’s glass back is made of four sheets and employs nanopatterning for a gradient finish.

The smartphones 6.5-inch IPS LCD display is quite ordinary, but it will protect your eyes from blue light, and make using it in the sunlight easy.
