Galaxy A90 5G Official; Mid-Ranger Gets Flagship Specs With Massive Battery, DeX Support, & Snapdragon X50 Modem

Samsung’s Galaxy A90 5G is the company’s first mid-range handset to offer next-gen connectivity support

After rumors were flying in all directions suggesting Samsung’s efforts towards launching an affordable mid-range device with 5G connectivity, here it is in all its glory. The Galaxy A90 5G, for all intents and purposes, belongs to the less expensive range of the Korean giant’s smartphone family, but the specifications you’re about to read might not make you believe that.

Display Size, and Resolution

The Galaxy A90 5G offers a generous 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display. The resolution measures 2400 x 1800 pixels, which is ideal for a smartphone that sports a display that’s nearly marching in the tablet form factor territory. There’s also an optical in-screen fingerprint sensor coupled with Face Recognition, though we recommend that if you do end up getting this, you should enable both security features.

Hardware Specifications

Remember when we said the Galaxy A90 5G features flagship specifications? We weren’t wrong, because right off the bat, the mid-ranger offers a Snapdragon 855, coupled with either 6GB RAM or 8GB RAM, depending on the configuration you want as your daily driver. You also get 128GB of onboard storage, but it’s not detailed if the speed of the flagship memory is eMMC 5.1-based for UFS 2.1-based, so we’ll dig this little detail out in the future. You can also expand your existing storage up to 512GB via microSD card, but that’s only if you get the 6GB RAM version. It also features a Snapdragon X50 5G modem, which probably means that it will launch in a few markets only.

Camera

The Galaxy A90 5G features four cameras in total; three at the back, one at the front. The rear side’s configuration offerings a primary 48MP F/2.0 unit, which we believe is Sony’s Exmor IMX586 sensor, with the second one being a 5MP F/2.2 depth-sensing solution. The third unit at the back is an ultra-wide 8MP F/2.2 shooter with a 123-degree field-of-view. It would have been better had Samsung incorporated a telephoto lens at the back, but we also understand this configuration might be used to keep the costs low. At the front, the device sports a single 32MP F/2.0 selfie camera.

Battery

Thanks to its massive 6.7-inch display, the Galaxy A90 5G offers a generous 4500mAh battery. That’s larger than the Galaxy Note 10 Plus’ 4300mAh cell, and the newly launched mid-ranger supports up to 25W of fast-charging. Sadly, the smartphone doesn’t offer Qi wireless charging, which was expected, given its categorization as a cheaper device. It charges via a USB Type-C port and also offers Samsung DeX support.

Pricing, Colors, and Availability

Samsung intends on offering the Galaxy A90 5G in the black and white flavors, with the device releasing in South Korea tomorrow for an undisclosed price. After it launches in Samsung’s home market, the affordable mid-ranger, or flagship, whatever you want to call it, will gradually be released in other markets. This is a pleasant surprise from Samsung, showing that it wants to offer cheaper 5G-ready handsets to help customers gravitate to the next stepping stones of cellular connectivity. Starting next year, you can expect to see more devices like this from other manufacturers, so stay tuned for more updates and check out the Galaxy A90 5G’s main page for more details.
