Zoe Quinn Publically Accuses Alec Holowka (Night in the Woods) of Sexual Assault

So, we all know the entertainment industry is a hotbed of some fairly immoral actions and sorts. Whether it’s the film industry with such as Harvey Weinstein or Kevin Spacey, or the games industry with a multitude of allegations of sexual assault or toxic environments in companies like Riot Games (recently settled a lawsuit), sexual misconduct or the use of power from social media entities like Yogscast (CEO and Caffcast to be exact) and of course some of those with any sort of power or reputation within the industry.

In this particular case, following yesterday’s rape accusation of Jeremy Soule by Nathalie Lawhead, today has seen the outing of another industry veteran. In this case, Alec Holowka (Aquaria, Night in the Woods) has been accused of sexual assault, amongst other things, by ZoĂ« Quinn. These accusations are very disturbing to read, taking places across six pages of screenshotted notes posted up by ZoĂ« on Twitter. I will place the images below.

Now, for this to have happened to ZoĂ« is wrong by any extent of the word and Alec Holowka, if guilty of such actions (remember folks, these are accusations – not facts), should certainly feel an insane amount of remorse and guilt. He should also be punished in some way, whatever that may be. Essentially, these notes accuse Alec of sexual assault, wrongful imprisonment. Particularly the latter as he is accused of refusing to pay for ZoĂ«’s flight home from Canada, something he agreed to if she purchased her ticket there.

In this ZoĂ« does state that Alec has openly come to her following years of therapy and working on himself to apologise for his actions and that she has forgiven him. For her to come out with this at any time does show strength, despite it being openly done as a response to Nathalie’s accusations from yesterday, giving ZoĂ« the strength to tell her story.

Towards the end of her statement, Zoë states:

I don’t wish any ill will on anyone. I know Alec is likely not well and I will always believe in rehabilitation over punishment. I don’t want anything bad to come of this to his collaborators who may not know any of this.

Scott Benson, Co-Creator of Night in the Woods, had this to say on Twitter when it was brought to his attention:

I must reiterate, however, that these are accusations and until Alec Holowka releases a statement on the matter or police involvement occurs, they remain as such. You should not attack Alec or Zoë, nor should you have it impact your thoughts on what was a fantastic piece of art that is Night in the Woods.
