Mario Kart Tour to Release at the Play Store on September 25

Mario Kart Tour was initially supposed to make its way to Android before the end of the summer. The game’s release isn’t delayed by too long as, Nintendo just announced that Mario Kart Tour would be available on the Play Store on September 25th. The game is now available at the Play Store for pre-registrations too. Nintendo further states that Mario Kart Tour will feature special city courses that let players race through courses inspired by actual locations like New York, Tokyo, and Paris.

The official trailer above shows off some of the gameplay for the upcoming release of Mario Kart Tour. The game retains all the racing elements of Mario Kart and has players collecting drivers such as  Mario, as well as karts and gliders. Players can choose which drivers, karts and gliders to use in races across a variety of courses, including new takes on classic courses and special city courses. City courses, special in-game event courses inspired by real-world locations, will be available during specific periods. In addition to courses based on iconic locales, some Mario Kart characters will get variations that incorporate the local flavor of cities featured in the game.

Mario Kart Tour will be free-to-play, which means that there’ll be microtransactions. We don’t know much about the specifics, but it is reasonable to assume that they’ll cap at around the $69.99-$99.99 marks. It’ll be interesting to see the approach Nintendo takes here. Although I’m not a fan of microtransactions in the slightest, they’re ok in my books as long as it’s cosmetic-only. Let’s hope Nintendo takes a similar approach to this one and doesn’t try to squeeze out every last penny out of players like other competitors in the mobile gaming space.

Mario Kart Tour will be available to download for iOS and Android devices via their respective app stores.  Furthermore, a Nintendo Account is also required to play Mario Kart Tour. Players can obtain their in-game registration card by linking their Nintendo Account. Those who do not already have a Nintendo Account will have to create one at the company’s official website.
