Galaxy Note 10+: Exynos Vs Snapdragon Test Shows Frame Rate Problem

Galaxy Note 10 pre-orders show that the flagship is somewhat a success

Each year Korean tech giant Samsung launches its Galaxy Note and Galaxy S mobile gadgets in two flavors. The one headed for North America and China runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets, while the one destined for international and South Korean users runs on Samsung’s Exynos processors. While a couple of years back the Exynos SoCs were better than Qualcomm’s processors in compute performance, but their Mali GPUs lagged behind excellently designed Adreno chips. However, recent trends show a lead for the Snapdragons in both CPU and GPU performance, and now we’ve got another test that corroborates this fact. Take a look below for more details.

Galaxy Note 10 Plus Speed Test Shows An Edge For The Snapdragon 855 Variant Of The Phablet

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 lineup changes a lot over its predecessor. The 2019 gadgets feature better cameras, improved displays and a sleeker build. Under their hood, they are powered by 7nm processors that have a few of their layers fabricated through EUV. Now, GaryExplains managed to get his hands on the Snapdragon and Exynos variants of the Galaxy Note 10 Plus and run them side-by-side to determine which device came out on top.

Both Note 10 Plus variants run through a variety of tests classified under what’s termed as ‘Speed Test G‘. Speed Test G is a group of ten tests run in order, one test at a time. These tests check a device’s CPU and GPU performance both in isolation and when working together. Here’s a list of the ten tests run by Speed Test G:

  • A sorting test of 32,000 numbers arranged in increasing order.
  • A Blur test on a picture, to test the GPU.
  • A Javascript version of 2048.
  • A Bloom test to exercise CPU, GPU and caches.
  • A SQL test.
  • A cubes test for CPU, GPU and memory testing.
  • A shooting game to test frame rate.
  • A 16 threads test to test multi-threading that sorts 65,000 numbers in ascending order.
  • A 3D game written in Unity.
  • A compression test.

When you take a look at the video above, you need to keep in mind the list of tests that we’ve shared. The tests, as we’ve mentioned, run in order and one at a time. At the start of the Speed Test G run, both Note 10 Plus’ are neck to neck, with only a hairline difference between them. However, the strength of Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU makes an impact after test number 7 (testing frame rate), when the Note 10 Plus running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 jumps ahead of the Exynos 9825 variant.

This lead then stretches into a 20-second win for the Snapdragon Note 10 Plus, which is significant given the nature of the technology involved in both devices. A breakdown of the test results shows that while the Snapdragon 855’s CPU is approximately three seconds faster than the Exynos’, its GPU has a much larger 14-second lead. These tests show that the Snapdragon 855 Galaxy Note 10 Plus is faster than its Exynos counterpart, and Samsung needs to keep this difference in mind when charging the same price for both gadgets.
