Borderlands 3 Reveals Apex-style Ping System, 4-Player Duels, New Streaming Features, More

This past weekend Gearbox Software rolled into Guardian Con in Orlando, where they revealed a variety of new Borderlands 3 details during a pair of panels. The biggest news is that Borderlands 3 will have an Apex-Legends-style ping system, which should make for easier communication. You can check out a brief demo of the ping system, below.

In addition to the ping system, Borderlands 3 will now allow even more friendly competition between you and your teammates with 4-player free-for-all duelling. On the matchmaking front, you’ll be able to join up with groups based on what kind of activity you’re looking to do and play single-player or local multiplayer when the game searches for online players to pair you with. There are also a number of ways you can continue to connect with your favorite teammates, even when you’re not playing together – you can mail items to your buddies and if you pick up a particularly badass piece of gear when a friend isn’t around, it will appear in a vending machine in their game so they can buy it later.

Gearbox are also adding a variety of new features to make Borderlands 3 more streaming-friendly. The game will make use of the Echocast Twitch extension, which will allow viewers to check out a streamer’s loadout and skilltrees and spawn special events in their game. Viewers could also have a chance to win in-game loot just by watching a stream. Get a better look at Borderlands 3’s Echocast integration, below.

And that’s not all! The game will also offer a variety of accessibility options, including the ability to remap your controls. While nothing announced this weekend was mind blowing, these are all nice little quality-of-life improvements, which prove Gearbox is really thinking about the Borderlands 3 player experience.

Borderlands 3 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 13.
