ASUS ROG Phone II Racks up More Than 2 Million Registrations in Short Time

Gaming smartphones still have time to add more popularity and find a place amongst the thin, premium glass and metal ‘sandwiched’ handsets, and ASUS ROG Phone II is one example that shows that they are getting there. Pre-orders of the gaming smartphone were opened recently in China and quite to the surprise of many, the Tencent-flavored version has emerged as a very popular model. The Taiwanese company has reported that 2 million units of the Tencent Games Edition of the ROG Phone II have been registered on the e-commerce website JD.com.

Cheaper ROG Phone II Has a Competitive Price Tag Going for It, Which Could Be Why People Have Expressed Interest

Figures are not available for the other variants yet, but as of yesterday, it was reported that over 2.3 million people have expressed their interest. These are some awe-inspiring statistics, and why not? The Tencent Games variant is equipped with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory but one of its strongest attributes has to be its price. It features a 3,499 Yuan price, which when using direct currency conversion, brings that figure to $510. However, the drawback of this model is that since it is developed in partnership with Tencent, it comes with a lot of bloatware such as apps and services.

In terms of other specifications, ROG Phone II will undoubtedly impress those that want to experience raw performance. First, it comes underpinned by the recently revealed Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is optimized for gaming performance. The phone sports a 6.59-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, along with a 240Hz touch sample rate, making it one of the most responsive smartphones out there. For prolonged gaming sessions, there is a mammoth 6000mAh battery inside.

Sadly, this variant and a couple of other special editions will most probably not be available in international markets. Instead, they will likely get the standard option equipped with a whopping 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory, which costs around $875. The international pricing might vary a little, and just like its successor, the phone might retail for $899 in the U.S.

ASUS is expected to announce pricing details, and international availability in August and the phone will most likely be released in more markets in September. While it would have been nice to get a cheaper priced ROG Phone II in international markets to help spur ASUS’ growth in this particular division of smartphones, we reckon the Taiwanese manufacturer wants to entice customers who have their eyes focused on the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 range, and others and are willing to pay more for this device.
