There have been plenty of rumors regarding the Nintendo Switch Mini, but the Japanese company didn’t acknowledge them, despite there being some strong clues regarding the development of the console. Today, Nintendo finally acknowledged them with a statement which seems to confirm the console is indeed coming.
According to online reports, during today’s Shareholders’ Meeting, it’s been confirmed Nintendo won’t comment on the Switch Mini rumors as that would prevent the company from surprising customers and reduce shareholders’ profit. It’s also been said that Nintendo is always developing new hardware. An official transcription of the statement has yet to surface online, so we should take this with a grain of salt until it does.

Last week, Chinese company HonSon sent out an email stating that Switch Mini accessories are in the works and that they will be released before the end of the year. The company also put up some renders of these accessories, but it’s been later revealed that the renders are not official, but they are based on “secret information”. Recently, it’s also been confirmed that demand from chip manufacturer Macronix has been increased, hinting at production going into full swing very recently.
The Switch Mini is also supposed to boost hardware sales growth for Nintendo.
Growth in the current period will get a boost from the launch of a new, cheaper version of the Switch, according to two people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss private plans. The new device will likely be launched by the end of June, according to one of the people. The existing Switch will receive a modest upgrade this year, though a more powerful version is not in the works, the people said.
