Moto Z3, Z2 Force and Moto G6 Receiving Android Pie Update in Some Regions

Motorola has never been particularly well-known for rolling out timely software upgrades. Even their flagship devices have to wait for extended periods of time before they receive an update. In some cases, users have had to wait for over two years for an Android Oreo update. All isn’t bad at Motorola HQ, though. Today, several users reported that they’re receiving the much-awaited Android Pie update on their Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Force and the Moto G6 devices.

The Moto Z3 and Z3 Play had received the Android Pie update in some markets starting April. Today, users in the US are receiving the update, and we can expect other regions to follow suit shortly. Some US Moto Z3 and Z3 Play models are receiving the OTA with the May 2019 patch included.

Along with the Moto Z3 and Z3 Play, even the popular Moto G6 is receiving the update on Verizon. The update was confirmed on Verizon’s support pages, and details firmware version PDS29.118-14, but has the April security patch instead of May.

Motorola often tests updates in markets such as Brazil and India before rolling them out internationally. It looks like they’re doing the same thing with the Moto Z2 Force, which appears to be receiving a taste of Android Pie in Brazil. Judging by their previous rollouts, the Indian market should be next, followed by a global release.

If you have either the Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Force or indeed the Moto G6, be sure to check your device settings regularly for the Android Pie OTA. As for the actual update, there isn’t much to speak about other than standard Android Pie features such as App Actions, Slices and the works. Motorola devices run a barebones version of Android that is as close to ‘Stock’ as it gets.
