Grandia HD Collection Coming to Nintendo Switch and PC

This is the day I’ve been waiting for, where I can finally sit in the knowledge that there could possibly be a god and they’ve decided they don’t hate me. Not only do I have a lovely glass of scotch at the side of me, but the real news is the announcement that Grandia and Grandia II are getting HD remasters, being released as the Grandia HD Collection for the Nintendo Switch.

Not only this, but we do already have the Grandia II Anniversary Edition on the PC, on Steam. This is getting renamed to Grandia II HD Remaster, with there also being a Grandia HD Remaster being released on Steam the very same time the Grandia HD Collection is released on the Nintendo Switch. As for when this is, sadly no date is given but is soon, seemingly sometime this year.

Personally, I can’t wait. When it comes to my first love in gaming, it was JRPG’s. Games like Final Fantasy, Suikoden, Dragon Quest and Grandia were series I grew up with before I became a PC person through and through. When it comes to Grandia, I’ve had more than enough enjoyment with the series on the PS1, PS2, then on the PC with the anniversary edition of the second game. I imagine, and by that I mean I know, I’m going to enjoy myself by playing both games on the Nintendo Switch. Chances are also that I’ll be playing the first on the PC too.

For those who’ve played Grandia II Anniversary Edition, the changes shouldn’t surprise you, but here they are for your viewing pleasure:

GRANDIA HD Collection, GRANDIA HD Remaster (PC), and GRANDIA II HD Remaster (PC) will feature a variety of new and improved features such as:

GRANDIA features

  • Enhanced details to UI, sprites, and texture art
  • Original cinematic videos receiving visual enhancements
  • Widescreen support and customizable resolutions (only for PC)
  • Steam cards and Achievements (only for PC)
  • Audio: Japanese and English
  • Language Support: Original English and Japanese plus French and German translation
  • Gamepad and keyboard support with remappable controls (only for PC)

GRANDIAII features

  • Enhanced details to UI, sprites, and texture art
  • Original cinematic videos receiving visual enhancements
  • Widescreen support and customizable resolutions (only for PC)
  • Audio: Japanese and English
  • Language Support: Original English and Japanese plus New French and German translation

Honestly, with the visual quality that can be achieved on the Switch, as well as the quite easy nature of the Grandia titles, these seem like perfect titles to play on the console. I’m looking forward to being able to play the Grandia HD Collection while I’m on the go, likely foregoing other titles that I should be reviewing at the time. Roll on whenever the remasters are getting released.
