Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 will retain the variable aperture camera feature that was first introduced with the Galaxy S9 series. Having such a feature determines and changes the amount of light that can enter the lens, and this also depends on the lightning conditions. Since two years now, Samsung has implemented a two-stage variable aperture mode, with the widest aperture on the Galaxy S10 series having a value of F/1.5. With the Galaxy Note 10, things are rumored to be a little different, but can this feature actually help out customers who want a capable camera configuration with their expensive smartphone purchase?
Three Stage Variable Aperture Camera on the Galaxy Note 10 Will Allow for Better Imaging Performance in Several Lighting Backgrounds
The news comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe, who states that Samsung’s Chinese engineers have reportedly said that the Galaxy Note 10 will ship with a three-stage variable aperture. It’s not stated if the less expensive version of the Note 10 will also come with this feature, but if Samsung incorporated a variable aperture on the Galaxy S10e, it will most likely port the same feature on the more cheaper flagship phablet.
According to the tweet, the Galaxy Note 10’s widest aperture will be F/1.5, while the second stage will narrow down that number to F/1.8, followed by a value of F/2.4. With the second stage, we should expect some vastly improved imaging performance in balanced lightning conditions.
With the first and last aperture modes, these were only ideal for dimly lit or brightly lit surroundings. Previously, the problem arose was is if the sensor took in too much light, then the image would become over-exposed and less pleasing to the naked eye, hence a triple-stage aperture mode could be found on the Note 10 to give more options to users.

If successful, Samsung will most definitely incorporate this feature in its less cheaper offerings over time. The Korean giant has been upping the design, performance and features for its less expensive smartphone lineup to gain an upper hand in emerging and developing markets. The Galaxy Note 10 with its plethora of features will certainly blow a hole in your wallet, but we’re excited to see what this three stage variable aperture camera will be capable of pulling off when we first see it in action, so stay tuned for more updates.
