Along with sending cumulative updates to all the Windows 10 versions available to the public, Microsoft has also released patches for the upcoming Windows 10 May 2019 Update to the Slow and Release Preview rings. As reported earlier, interested users can already get their hands on version 1903, but these cumulative updates will certainly help with performance and stability.
Microsoft was originally expected to deliver this latest Windows 10 feature update last month, but it pushed the public release to May to iron out any last-minute bugs. Hopefully today’s quality update will help speed up the process.
Similar to the other updates being released today, May 2019 Update also gets protection against Intel’s new speculative execution side-channel vulnerability (dubbed as Microarchitectural Data Sampling or MDS).
Windows 10 May 2019 Update Build 18362.113 (KB4497936) changelog:
- Provides protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities, known as Microarchitectural Data Sampling, for 64-Bit (x64) versions of Windows (CVE-2018-11091, CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12127, CVE-2018-12130). Use the registry settings as described in the Windows Client and Windows Server articles. (These registry settings are enabled by default for Windows Client OS editions and Windows Server OS editions).
- Addresses an issue that decreases Internet Explorer’s performance when you use roaming profiles or you don’t use the Microsoft Compatibility List.
- Addresses an issue that may cause the text, layout, or cell size to become narrower or wider than expected in Microsoft Excel when using the MS UI Gothic or MS PGothic fonts.
There’s also one known issue with today’s Windows 10 May 2019 Update cumulative update:
Sympton: After installing this update, users may experience error “0x800705b4” when launching Windows Defender Application Guard or Windows Sandbox.
Workaround:
Use the credentials of a local admin to create and set the following registry keys on the Host OS then restart the Host:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Containers\CmService\Policy]
“DisableClone”=dword:00000001
“DisableSnapshot”=dword:00000001
Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
The update is available for everyone running Windows 10 Build 18356.30 or higher. More details available over at the official release notes.
