OnePlus 7 Pro Sees Its Fingerprint Sensor Fooled By Glue And Aluminum Foil In A Relatively Simple Hack
While the Galaxy S10 hack shared above could easily be used for nefarious purposes, it’s going to be slightly difficult with the OnePlus 7 Pro. The S10’s hack involved taking a photograph of a fingerprint image left on a transparent surface, and then 3D printing this image. To breach the OnePlus 7 Pro’s security though, you’ll have to make sure that a replica of the fingerprint that’s stored inside the device is created by making an impression of it in glue spread out on a sheet of aluminum.
It’s a relatively simple procedure that is able to fool both the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 7 Pro. Additionally, it’s also possible to hack the OnePlus 7 Pro in a manner similar to the one described for the Galaxy S10 above.
After all, if the smartphone’s biometric recognition system is compromised by a fingerprint impression on glue, then a 3D printed fingerprint image isn’t going to disappoint. Additionally, the glue hack does not work on Samsung’s Galaxy S10, as the device’s fingerprint sensor is designed to differentiate between the fine ridges of your fingerprint using ultrasonic sensing.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is OnePlus’ first attempt at heavy-duty flagship specifications aimed at beating high-end gadgets available out there. The device features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 and an excellent rear camera sensor. Its success in the American market will determine whether OnePlus can scale its operations up. Thoughts?
