As is always the case, flagship smartphone manufacturers are racing to push the boundaries of what a camera lens can achieve on a smartphone. Depth mapping and neural computation have expanded the boundaries of what can be achieved from the light gathered from a camera lens. As Huawei’s excellent P30 Pro tumbles, it’s time for Samsung to remind everyone that it’s still the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world in terms of shipments. Samsung Will Place The Note 10’s Rear Camera Setup At The Top Right Of The Device Suggests Alleged
We’ve got a render of a camera sensor setup today that might make it on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 later this year. There are three lenses present, and the render was spotted on the Chinese social network Weibo by Ice_Universe. The tipster claimed earlier this month that Samsung intends to change the orientation of the Galaxy Note 10’s rear camera sensors to horizontal in order to differentiate the phablet(s) from this year’s Galaxy S10 and last year’s Note 9.
Samsung’s laid out the Note lineup’s camera sensors horizontally of late, and now, practical constraints and a need for change will change the Note 10’s design over the device’s predecessor. Taking a closer look at the leaked render, we see that the gadget will not have its rear cameras placed in a single vertical or horizontal array.
If Samsung chooses to arrange the sensors vertically, the Note 10 will become the latest in the category of gadgets with this design. Other examples include Apple’s iPhone XS lineup and Huawei’s P30 lineup. Of course, this doesn’t matter when it comes to the Note 10’s camera performance, as that will be determined by both the choice of hardware and the implementation of the software.
Samsung chose to go big with the S10 this year, as the company launched four smartphones under the branding earlier this year. These provide it with a lot of workable prototypes from which to build the Note lineup. Last year we saw the Note 9’s S-Pen take on a greater role for usage, and future leaks will tell us whether this will also be the case in 2019.
