At this point, it should come as no surprise that Google does a lot more tracking than it claims to. The company has been caught doing it several times and has faced little in the way of consequences. Today, Google has been found to keeping track of nearly every single online purchase you’ve ever made, thanks to purchasing receipts sent to your Gmail account. Even though the information is made available to you via a private web tool, it is virtually impossible to find unless you look for it. You can check it out by here. To help you easily view and keep track of your purchases, bookings and subscriptions in one place, we’ve created a private destination that can only be seen by you. You can delete this information at any time. We don’t use any information from your Gmail messages to serve you ads, and that includes the email receipts and confirmations shown on the Purchase page.
Google claims that they do not use this information for personalized ad tracking. To make matters worse, it is extremely cumbersome to delete all the data at once. The easiest way is to delete all the receipts from your Inbox, but if you’re one to hold on to them, then the process becomes a lot more tiring. In order to remove them from Google Purchases and keep them in your Gmail inbox, you need to delete them one by one from the Purchases page. Depending on how much shopping you did, it may take forever to do that for years’ worth of purchase information. Here’s how you go about it:
- To delete an order from your list, select it to see its details.
- At the top right, select Info ‘Where’s this from?’
- Depending on where you made the order, you can delete it by selecting Delete. Otherwise, select View Details or View Email to go to the original service and manage it.
There’s no discernable reason to why Google is tracking this information. One can understand if it was restricted to purchases made from the Play/Google Store, but tracking all your purchases comes off as downright creepy.
