Apple Watch Series 4 Bags ‘ Display of the Year’ Award for Significant Technological Advancements

Apple Watch Series 4 wins display of the year award

The Apple Watch Series 4 is one of the recipients to nab the ‘Display of the Year’ award this year. The title was given by the Society for Information Display (SID) during this year’s Display Industry Awards which was held during the Display Week. The award recognizes the innovative work that’s taking place across the display industry.

The Apple Watch Series 4 was a part of the category that emphasized significant technological advances and outstanding features. The fourth generation Apple Watch was applauded for increasing the size of the OLED display by 30 percent without a corresponding increase in the size of the watch. SID says that without departing from the original design, the new watch offers notable hardware and software upgrades.

As SID notes, the challenge for Apple was to make the screen bigger without significantly increasing the size of the case or adversely affecting the battery life. The organization states that the display is one of the most important features of the Apple Watch and the latest generation pushed that feature further. The company trimmed the borders of the watch to make the viewing area larger. Moreover, the Apple Watch Series 4 also makes use of the LTPO technology to increase power efficiency. This enables the accessory to last all day on a single charge. SID also praised the new interface, which displays more information and that increased screen real estate enables the user to view more content.

This year’s awards included products that were released in 2018. Unlike last year, when both the iPhone X and iPad Pro won the coveted title, only the fourth generation watch could make it this year from Apple’s list of products. Samsung also received an award for its ‘The Wall’ modular microLED 8K display and Sony was also one of the winners, thanks to its Crystal LED Display System which also relies on the same microLED technology.

In the smartwatch industry, Apple currently leads the pack, with the Series 5 reportedly getting its OLED screens from Japan Display. What notable changes the upcoming wearable will have, we’ll update our readers in the future, so stay tuned.
