Microsoft has officially confirmed that it is going to call the next version of its desktop operating system as the Windows 10 May 2019 Update. While we were expecting the newer version to arrive this month, the Windows maker has said that it would like to run the version through the Release Preview ring a little longer than usual to make sure it is free of all bugs.
This means that the feature update will instead be released to the public next month. “I’m pleased to announce that the Windows 10 May 2019 Update will start to be available next week in the Release Preview Ring for those in the Windows Insider Program,” Mike Fortin, Corporate Vice President, Windows, wrote.
“We will begin broader availability in late May for commercial customers, users who choose the new May 2019 Update for their Windows 10 PC via “check for updates,” and customers whose devices are nearing the end of support on a given release.
“The May 2019 Update will be available in late May through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Windows Update for Business, the Volume Licensing Service Center for phased deployment using System Center Configuration Manager or other systems management software.”
Since the Windows 10 October 2018 Update disasters, the company has repeatedly said that it will bring better a update process and a more stable version the next release. The last version was released to the public following a “seeker” approach, where anyone could click on the “check for updates” button to get version 1809. The update didn’t go through the Release Preview ring, which just made things worse as it resulted in a lot of bugs breaking machines when users downloaded it.
Before this, the April 2018 Update was the fastest growing version and Microsoft would certainly want to go back on that track as it has millions of Windows 7 machines potentially ready for Windows 10 upgrade now that the operating system is hitting its end of service deadline in January.
