Apple introduced a fresh redesign of the iPad Pro family back in 2018, equipped with new sensors for Face ID, thin bezels, and a Type-C USB interface, with support for the new Apple Pencil. The California-based giant certainly isn’t stopping here, as a famed Apple analyst believes that we might get to see more unique components in the next-generation of iPad Pro. Most rumors suggest Apple’s plan to launch a 5G iPhone in 2020, but the iPad Pro series will not be outfitted with a 5G modem next year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.
iPad Pro Models for 2020 Reported to Get LCP Soft Board, Allowing for Better Wireless Communication
The analyst, who is currently employed at TF International Securities, states in an investor note (via AppleInsider) that the next-generation of iPad Pro models will retain the same 11-inch and 12.9-inch display sizes, and while there might not be any changes on the outside, there could be modifications done on the inside. Kuo believes that Apple will use an LCP Soft Board, and if the company makes such a move, it will be the first time it would choose this component. As suggested by the name, the PCB is soft, flexible, allowing components to interact with each other seamlessly, which might not be the case when it comes to rigid circuit boards.
We also believe it should make the manufacturing process of these boards a lot simpler thanks to the aforementioned property they hold. The use of LCP Soft Board is also expected to be used when Apple will launch the new and improved iPad Pro series in 2021. Apart from the internal changes, two years from now, we could see the first 5G-ready slates from the company. It is to be believed that the LCP Soft Board will be used to connect the antenna to the motherboard, which will help reduce signal losses and improve overall networking performance.
Since the iPad Pro is being marketed as a portable productivity tool rather than a large screen product strictly manufactured for media consumption and browsing, the analyst most likely believes that seamless wireless connectivity will enable users to get work done a lot quicker. It hasn’t been explained if the incorporation of this new board will make the new iPad Pro models more susceptible to bends, but the durability of the 2018 tablets isn’t what an average user would consider ‘up to the mark’, as indicated by a torture test done by JerryRigEverything.
