Snapdragon 735 Alleged Specs Leak Include Dedicated NPU, 7nm Process – Could Make Future Non-Flagship Devices 5G-Ready

Snapdragon 735 Alleged Specs Leak Include Dedicated NPU, 7nm Process

Qualcomm revealed its mid-range Snapdragon 730 series, which also included the slightly more powerful Snapdragon 730G, but the company is looking to strengthen this category of silicon with the Snapdragon 735. If you haven’t heard of the Snapdragon 735, that’s because Qualcomm is yet to announce it, but an alleged specifications sheet reveals a lot of interesting info about the SoC. The internal document shows that not only is the silicon expected to make cheaper handsets more powerful, it should make them smarter, while also giving them additional features that consumers might be looking for.

Snapdragon 735 Leak Details Show Support for up to 12GB RAM With Triple Cluster Octa-Core Processor Running

Qualcomm is one of the companies that have been at the forefront of 5G development. It was previously reported that the successor to the Snapdragon 855, which will apparently be called the Snapdragon 865, will come with an integrated 5G modem. It now seems like Qualcomm will adopt the same strategy for its mid-range Snapdragon 735 as well.

In the same vein as the Snapdragon 855, the Snapdragon 735 will reportedly be built on a 7nm LPP process and have an octa-core CPU in the 1+1+6 configuration. The six efficiency cores will apparently be clocked at 1.60GHz, one core at 2.40GHz, and the high performance one at 2.90GHz. The two main cores will reportedly be Cortex-A76 based and the six efficiency cores will apparently be Cortex-A55 derivatives. The chipset is also assumed to come with the Adreno 620 GPU.

The chip will reportedly deliver a 20 percent increase in performance and a 50 percent increase in efficiency over the Snapdragon 710 and it will allegedly be 20 percent more efficient than the Snapdragon 730. The Snapdragon 735 will apparently support up to 12GB of RAM, displays with an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a resolution of 3360 x 1440 and 4K video shooting at 60FPS. It is also tipped to come with an NPU 220 and the integrated modem will also allow manufacturers to make thinner devices.

With these specifications, we expect the new chip will give flagship-level specifications to mid-range phones and more importantly, it will make 5G ready smartphones more accessible for the general public. The Snapdragon 710 was aimed to provide premium features and was incorporated in phones with affordable prices; the Snapdragon 735 will take things to the next level, assuming the silicon ever materializes. We should expect the first Snapdragon 735-fueled devices during the first half of 2020, and that’s the period where 5G will start to gain a little more traction globally.
