Noticed how your iPhone and iPad storage is being eaten away randomly? Blame the Podcasts app.
There are a lot of services running in the background if you have an iPhone or iPad. Photos are being constantly uploaded, downloaded, backed up and whatnot. Same goes for the Podcasts app as well if you make do with it a lot.
In fact, by default, iOS offers you the convenience of downloading every latest podcast straight onto your device so that you can listen to it right away. This happens every single time if you are on WiFi. This in turn means that the Podcasts app might rake in some storage space too.
If you’ve noticed that Podcasts might be eating away space on your phone or tablet, then follow the steps below to make sure that new episodes aren’t downloaded in the background, freeing up space for good.
1. Launch the Settings app on your phone or tablet.
2. Scroll down a little and find the Podcasts entry. Tap on it to view more settings.
3. Under the Episode Downloads section, tap on Download Episodes.
4. Select Off, if it is set to anything else.
From now on, your iPhone or iPad won’t download new episodes on its own, leaving you with an abundance of space on your device.
If you have a lot of podcast subscriptions, then leaving this feature on might be handy if you want to listen to everything offline while on the go, saving you a bunch of data. But of course, this means that if there are subscriptions you are not listening to, then you will lose precious bit of storage. If you are all about that free storage life then you might want to turn this feature off for good.
The Podcasts app is a great way to catch up on a lot of things, especially in the world of tech. Whether you are working out, killing some time on your commute to the office or back, the app has you covered in a lot of ways. Sure, the app might not be feature-rich compared to a lot of third-party options, but it will get the job done for you, that too absolutely free.
