Supply Chain Sources Believe That Apple’s 2019 Upgrade To The iPhone XR Will Feature A Dual Rear Camera Setup By Adding A New Telephoto Lens
Apple’s very smart in the way it manufactures and sells gadgets. The company’s recent approach is to use similar components across the board for its various gadgets, and sell them in different packages under a different brand. So, while the recent iPad Mini and iPad Air are nearly similar in terms of internals, Apple’s differentiated them on the basis of display size.
The company also followed a similar approach with the 2018 iPhone lineup. So, while you get an additional camera sensor with the iPhone XS, the iPhone XR has the same wide-angle camera sensor as the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Now, it might be the case that the company will provide the rear camera sensor setup that’s present on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max on the 2019 iPhone XR.
Today we’ve got a report from Apple’s supply chain that claims that the company will introduce a dual rear camera setup on its 2019 iPhone XR successor. The report is from the Japanese blog Macotakara, who is citing a Chinese Apple supplier. Since this report is only from one source, we’d advise you to take with grain for salt for the time being. However, it’s highly likely that Apple will follow this approach as not only will it allow the company to reuse older components, but that it’ll also provide users who love a low-cost iPhone with a dual camera setup.
Speaking of which, it’s also rumored that Apple will scrap the iPhone XR altogether this year and introduce a smaller form factor in its stead. This little whisper isn’t concrete by any means, and if it were true, then it’d require a huge investment of time and resources from Apple’s end. Given that the company hasn’t taken any risks in a while, we’re inclined to believe that it will refresh the iPhone XR this year instead of launching a smaller smartphone. But hey, no harm in having a wishlist right?
