After popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything performed a bend test on the 2018 iPad Pro, the massively reduced thickness coupled with the weak microphone area caused it to snap in half fairly easily. It does, and it manages to remain functional too, which is impressive, so let us walk you through the entire test to see what are the durable areas of the tablet.
Sporting a Non-Flexible LCD Panel, the iPad mini 5’s Display Remains Functional Even After Bending
JerryRigEverything got his hands on Apple’s iPad mini 5 and nearly everyone knows what he’s going to do next. The iPad mini 5 features a tempered glass at the front, and an all-metal design. The individual has been upset at Apple since 2016, as this was the year the company said goodbye to the headphone jack, so he looks cheered up at the iPad mini 5 sporting this port once more.
He isn’t too fond of the design, which has massive bezels at the top and bottom, but if this formula is making money for Apple, then more power to them. Since the iPad mini 5 features an IPS panel, it survives the burn test, and the pixels recover after some time. Keep in mind that if this were an AMOLED or OLED screen, the burn test would make sure that the contact point would not recover. Moving on to the final test, the YouTuber used all his might to make short work of the iPad just like he did with the 2018 iPad Pro, but he was unsuccessful.
Nevertheless, he still managed to bend the slate by a considerable degree but when he attempts to bend the iPad mini 5 from the other side to finally make it yield, it just props back into place. What is more impressive is that the tablet’s display remains functional and is able to register touch inputs, which is something not many devices can do when they’ve been bent at such an angle. All in all, it was a victory for Apple but we can also add that perhaps the smaller 7.9-inch screen size might have given the tablet more room to possess a higher bend tolerance.
