How to Fix “This PC Can’t Be Upgraded” Issue When Installing Windows 10 May 2019 Update

Microsoft has delayed the public release of its upcoming Windows 10 version 1903 to the next month. However, interested users can get their hands on this newest version before anyone else by getting enrolled in the Release Preview ring. As reported last night, it’s a pretty straightforward process that enables you to install Windows 10 May 2019 Update.

Some users have since reported that they are receiving the following alert when trying to upgrade their machines to the latest version:

This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10.

Although you are enrolled in the Windows Insider Program this device isn’t yet eligible for this build.

If you are facing this roadblock when trying to install Windows 10 May 2019 Update, the fix is quite simple, as well. Since this particular Windows 10 version has been facing issues with games that use anti-cheat software, the same is causing problems for the installation process too. One user updated on Reddit (via WR) that once you remove any such game, you can easily install Windows 10 May 2019 Update.

I figured out the problem its happens if you have battleeye anti cheat software in your system, it my case it was bundled with a game called planetsides 2 which I don’t play anymore so I just removed it and it worked.

Looks like there are still problems with battleeye software and this update is not yet for everyone.

Microsoft said last month that the anti-cheat software issue had been resolved as the game makers were releasing fixes for the problem. It appears the issue persists for at least some users. On the same thread, one user has also commented seeing the same “This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10” alert, but caused by a “driver or service that is not compatible.”

The Windows maker is expected to roll out multiple cumulative updates over the next few weeks to get rid of these issues before the May 2019 Update is released to the public. As mentioned in our original coverage on the issue, you should avoid installing Windows 10 1903 if you don’t want to deal with bugs or stability problems. Microsoft is currently running 1903 through the Release Preview to stabilize and fine-tune the OS before this version makes its way to the public.
