CDPR Dev: Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines Was an Inspiration for Cyberpunk 2077; Google Stadia Could be Revolutionary

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt RED went a bit dark in the last few months. That ended a couple of days ago when Spanish website Areajugones published a lengthy interview with Cyberpunk 2077 Quest Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, whose credits include The Witcher 2, The Witcher 3 (including the Hearths of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions) and the recent Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

The Quest Director mentioned Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines as an inspiration while developing Cyberpunk 2077.

For my part, personally, Vampire Bloodlines, I do not know if you’ve heard of it. In terms of what is an RPG in the first person view and the way in which its non-linearity is built in the gameplay and dialogue, this one of course. We are all players and we enjoy different genres but as a personal question, I would say Vampire Bloodlines. Specifically because it is the perfect example of a first person game and RPG that I personally enjoyed.

The good news for fans of first-person RPGs is that they’ll soon get to play two highly promising games between Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (Q1 2020) and, of course, Cyberpunk 2077.

The CD Projekt RED Quest Director later talked a bit of the big news coming out of the recent Game Developers Conference: Google Stadia, the upcoming cloud-based gaming platform due to debut later this year. Tomaszkiewicz reckons that this technology could be revolutionary, though of course he couldn’t speak to a possible port of Cyberpunk 2077 as that would be a decision from the higher-ups.

I’m really interested in knowing how Google Stadia will work from the point of view of a player and developer, and I think that I do not currently know much about this technology in more detailed terms to talk more about it. But it really could be revolutionary if it is well thought out. As for Cyberpunk 2077, it’s still early to talk about it and we have not even focused on Stadia so at this point I do not know. At some point in the future who knows. As we have repeated before we are focused on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. I am very curious of course, but I am not the right person for these matters, it’s a question for the board of directors.

Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be prominently featured at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, with fans eagerly waiting to learn the game’s release date. We’ll be on site to deliver you all the latest from E3.
