Your MacBook already has the functionality to pair with the Apple Watch for unlocking purposes. However, things are about to be escalated with Apple’s upcoming macOS 10.15 firmware upgrade which is set to launch sometime later this year. The company is working to expand its approach by introducing new features to the mix. That’s right, the Apple Watch will do so much more than just unlock your Mac with macOS 10.15. Apple Looking to Expand the Apple Watch’s Functionality With macOS 10.15

MacBook Pro models that feature Touch ID uses a fingerprint sensor to authenticate purchases or Apple Pay transactions. However, for those models that do not feature Touch ID can use the Apple Watch to authenticate Apple Pay transactions online by double-clicking the side button. Apple is now working to expand this functionality in macOS 10.15 and probably, the feature will make way later this year.

However, it is not clear at this stage how the expanded functionality will be used. As of now, we can presume that the Apple Watch will work in a similar way in the authentication process where Touch ID is applicable. In addition, the company might also add new features, opening new niches where the Apple Watch can be used with a Mac.

Other than this, Apple will also have to update its watchOS firmware, so both platforms support and compliment. Apple is expected to unveil its upcoming software upgrades at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June, which will highlight what we can expect.
