Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro’s Android Pie update may bring dual VoLTE support

The global smartphone market is incredibly diverse with each market having their own preferences when it comes to hardware, software, and update support. Some markets are still dominated by regular text messaging while others have moved on to dedicated messaging platforms. Some places have enough WiFi hotspots to not care about cellular coverage and others are dependant on particular networks and the features they come with. VoLTE and dual-SIM functionality are both incredibly popular in many places around the world and an upcoming update may add support for dual VoLTE capabilities to the Redmi 6 Pro.

Redmi 6 Pro XDA Forum

It was late into January when a closed beta of MIUI 10 based on Android Pie was made available to the Redmi 6 Pro. A little more than a month later the update was then made available (again, as a closed beta) to those own owned the device in India. So we had a closed beta of both the Chinese and Global Pie updates for the Redmi 6 Pro in our hands for a bit now and the stable rollout is said to begin in the near future. A new feature that we’re seeing shown off in a screenshot is the ability to enable VoLTE functionality on the secondary SIM slot.

As of right now, it is unclear if this feature will make it into the first stable build of MIUI 10 based on Android Pie. It has been revealed in official Xiaomi threads that the feature is still in beta testing phase but we know the stable update is coming soon. So if Xiaomi is able to get the Redmi 6 Pro tested enough then the feature could make it in time. It has yet to be announced as a feature in the new update so we’ll simply have to wait until it begins rolling out before we know for sure.
