Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro are the latest devices from the highly successful Redmi Note series from Xiaomi and like earlier smartphones in the series, both the smartphones offer great specifications at jaw-dropping prices. Xiaomi has been marketing the two smartphones aggressively in India and homeland China, with the Note 7 now setting out for an expedition to Europe. However, the company has outlined its plan to restrict the sale of Redmi Note 7 Pro to China and India.
In a recent post on Facebook, Xiaomi’s Regional Director for Southeast Asia, John Chen, shattered all hopes about an international version of the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Chen kept details as vague as possible by citing Xiaomi’s “product strategy,” and did not share a clear reason due to which the company may be taking such a decision.
Dear Mi FansAs much as I would like to, I regret to inform everyone that Redmi Note 7 Pro will NOT have the official…

Meanwhile, Xiaomi may be working on a global variant of the Mi 9 SE, which was launched in China last month along with the flagship Mi 9. This is because Xiaomi recently updated its global compliance page to include the Mi 9 SE and we can expect it to launch in Europe. As you may have guessed, the Redmi Note 7 is also listed on the page but the Pro variant isn’t.
Xiaomi’s Mi 9 SE comes with a Snapdragon 712 SoC while the Redmi Note 7 Pro features a Snapdragon 675. Both phones share a lot in common, including the 48MP primary camera sensor, 6GB of RAM, a Full HD+ display with a waterdrop notch design but have a stark difference in pricing. 6GB+128GB variants of the Mi 9 SE and the Note 7 Pro cost 2,299 yuan ($340, ₹23,600) and 1,599 yuan ($240, ₹16,999 official price in India), respectively.
So, as it seems, Xiaomi may be wanting to prevent the Redmi Note 7 Pro from cannibalizing the Mi 9 SE. While the Mi 9 SE brings a more premium design and a third camera sensor at the back, most users are likely to be lured by the Note 7 Pro because of its higher value for money.
Recently, Xiaomi shared its expectation of selling at least 4 million units of the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro (combined) by the end of this month. Apart from the sales in India and China, figures from the sale of Redmi Note 7 in Spain are likely to add to these results and help Xiaomi achieve the growth that it is aiming for in the markets outside of Asia.
