At its launch event in New Delhi today, Realme officially announced the Realme 3. The successor to last year’s Realme 2, the new device claims to bring improved camera performance along with an attractive design. Realme, a sub-brand of Oppo, was formed in May 2018 as an online-exclusive brand and has emerged as a solid competitor to Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup. The company mainly focuses on selling budget and early mid-range smartphones and has managed to sell 5 million smartphones in such a short run, making it the no. 4 smartphone brand in Q4 2018 in the online segment in the Indian smartphone market.
Realme 3 Design and Specifications
The Reame 3 features an injection molded unibody design instead of the traditional sandwich structure of screen, mid-frame and back cover. The front of the device is covered with a 6.22″ HD+ 19:9 display featuring a waterdrop notch with a screen resolution of 1520 x 720. The notch holds the front camera sensor and the proximity sensor while just above is the earpiece. The back holds a vertically-arranged dual camera setup, perpendicular to the brand logo along with a slightly recessed fingerprint scanner.

Powering the Realme 3 is the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, featuring 4x ARM Cortex-73 and 4x Cortex-53 cores clocked at 2.1GHz frequency, paired with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage respectively. The camera setup also sees an upgrade and features a 13MP primary shooter with a bigger f/1.8 aperture and 2MP depth sensor for portrait photography. Realme is also including a dedicated night mode called Nightscape for better night photography and the Chroma Boost mode, which helps bringing out more details and dynamic range in tricky lighting conditions. The front camera has also been updated from an 8MP shooter to a 13MP f/2.0 sensor coupled with a larger 1.12-micron pixel size.
In an attempt to make the device more accessible for custom ROM development, the company says they’ll be providing bootloader unlocking for the Realme 3 from day one. Moreover, the device also comes with Camera2API enabled, allowing users to take advantage of aftermarket camera solutions like GCam mod without rooting their devices.
