New Google Pixel 3 XL Lite Benchmark Leak Reveals a Significant Downgrade in Hardware Specs and Performance

Google Pixel 3 XL Lite Geekbench downgraded specs

Launching affordable devices under the Pixel 3 range will give Google access to more sales and exposure in price-sensitive markets. So far, two less powerful devices dubbed the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite have been leaked and discussed several times. Earlier leaked information revealed that they might not be as powerful as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, they still possess some of the more impressive specifications that made Google’s smartphone series stand out, such as the single, but a vastly capable camera. The Pixel 3 XL Lite shows up in a new benchmark leak but the hardware is much different than what we anticipated.

Google Pixel 3 XL Lite on Geekbench Features Half the RAM and an Even Weaker SoC

The new benchmark shows a device titled ‘Google Pixel 3 XL Lite’ and disappointingly, the handset’s specifications list shows 3GB of RAM. This is a far cry from a separate leak, which showed the smartphone sporting an impressive 6GB RAM because even the more expensive Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are limited to 4GB RAM. However, what is even more disappointing than having less RAM in your device is the Pixel 3 XL Lite was tested with a Snapdragon 625.

Geekbench shows the chip’s model number as MSM8953, confirming it to belong to the lower-end spectrum of Qualcomm’s SoCs, revealing that the Pixel 3 XL Lite might not sport the Snapdragon 710 it was earlier leaked to possess. This can also mean that the smaller Pixel 3 Lite, which was reported to feature a Snapdragon 670 courtesy of a hands-on video, will get a weaker silicon. One might argue that the stock Android experience will remove the processing stress from the Snapdragon 625 to a certain degree, a higher-end Snapdragon 600 series chipset would have been better in every way.

We say this because the scores obtained in this Geekbench are disappointing. The device in question could not obtain even 1000 points in the single-core test results. Then again, benchmarking scores can be manipulated to create confusion, so we have our fingers crossed and believe Google will make the right decision in making its Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite somewhat capable.

According to previously reported statistics, Google generated around $3 billion in profit from its hardware division, and if it starts to really focus on its smartphones for different markets, the aforementioned figure could improve in the coming years.
