Mopria Print Service gets updated with Android for Work support, collation, output tray selection, and more

Directly printing documents from your smartphone is an underrated feature on Android, but there’s a reason for that. The experience has not been the best, as early versions of Android did not even natively support printing. Google’s Cloud Print app tried to bring some order to the chaos, while Android 4.4. Kitkat brought in some barebones APIs in the form of the Android Print Framework. This change spurred the largest printer manufacturers to come together to form the Mopria Alliance, with the goal of providing a simple, wireless printing solution for mobile devices. The Mopria Print Service is the result of this collaborative effort.

Mopria Print Service allows Android smartphones to directly print to a Mopria certified printer on the same wireless network or through WiFi Direct. Members of the Mopria Alliance include big names like Brother, Canon, Epson, Fuji Xerox, HP, Kyocera, Lenovo, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Xerox, and more; so you can rest assured that there are a wide variety of products available that can meet your needs while being Mopria certified. You can check here to see if your printer is Mopria certified. Mopria Print Services is pre-installed (and completely uninstallable) on a few Android devices, but you can always install the app through the Google Play Store if it isn’t.
