The dust has barely settled on the just-released Huawei P30 and P30 Pro and a company official has already started talking about the Mate 30 series. While it’s no secret that the company launches two flagship series in a year, it is surprising to see the company acknowledge the presence of its next flagship lineup and reveal when it could potentially launch.
The Huawei Mate 30 Series Will Be Launched in September or October to Compete Against the Galaxy Note 10 and iPhone XI
According to the Chinese company’s Product Manager Bruce Lee, the Mate 30 range will be launched in September or October. This information was revealed at a Huawei P30 event in Malaysia. Lee further revealed that the Mate 30 phones are being tested right now. Huawei usually packs in its new silicon inside its Mate series phones first and if rumors are to go by, the Mate 30 range would be the first to be underpinned by HiSilicon’s upcoming chip, the Kirin 985.
The new chipset will reportedly be made on the 7nm Extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) process. The EUV manufacturing method is projected to be the basis for smaller chip designs in the future and would reportedly enable 20 percent greater transistor density. Although the new chip will be based on a similar architecture as the Kirin 980 SoC that powers Huawei’s current chipsets, it will offer increased clock speeds, which will presumably result in higher performance. The chip might even have an embedded 5G modem.
While not a lot is known about the Mate 30 series, a patent that showed up in January hinted that Huawei is considering a quintuple camera setup on the back. Most likely, only the bigger Mate 30 Pro could be armed with five sensors, while the standard Mate 30 would come with four cameras on the back.
The recently released Huawei P30 Pro has already been crowned the new camera king by DxOMark and with the addition of another sensor, the Mate 30 Pro could offer even better results. Of course, it’s too soon to say anything regarding the features of the upcoming flagship so we will keep our ears on the ground and keep you posted in the future.
