Huawei India is recruiting EMUI 9 beta testers for the P20 Lite and Y9

Huawei has worked on EMUI 9 since before Android Pie was officially released. Ever since they got the full source code in hand the company has been hard at work building a baseline of code that would be used as a template to be put on a number of devices. The global release was announced for a number of Honor devices just a few months ago, but both  Huawei and Honor have a lot of devices they want to update. This means that some devices in some regions would be delayed. The Huawei P20 Lite and the Y9 in India are two devices that have had to wait but that is about to change as the company has announced an official beta test.

When we published a list of devices that we were aware of that would receive the update to EMUI 9, the P20 Lite and the Y9 were not on the list. We also weren’t given any information about when the update would roll out for either model.

But now, Huawei P20 Lite and Huawei Y9 owners in India can sign up for the beta by downloading the beta application from Huawei’s website here. Once installed, go ahead and open it up, agree to the terms, and then log in with your Huawei ID. You can then tap on the Personal tab at the top and select the Join Project option. The application will detect your smartphone model and see if there is a beta program for you to take part in.

EMUI 9 is based on Android 9 Pie and comes with Huawei’s own take on Digital Wellbeing called Digital Balance. On certain devices, it also enables the use of wireless projection in Easy Projection. Those are just two of the major new features in the latest EMUI version.

Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloader of the Huawei P20 Lite and Y9 can’t be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
