Google’s Pixel smartphones have slowly established themselves as one of the best phones around. Being high-end phones, the handsets carry a steep price tag. In fact, the price of the original Pixel phone and its successor rarely ever dropped. Thankfully, that’s not the case with the third generation Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, as since their release, there have been many deals on them and right now Google is again offering the phones for historically low rates.
Price Cuts Are Excellent for Customers but Does It Prove That Google Is Struggling to Get Some Sales out of Its Latest Devices?
Although the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL are underpinned by last year’s flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 845, and are hailed for photography prowess, the phones aren’t big on memory or battery life. However, they are still pretty decent phones overall but with their original price tag, their value proposition isn’t exactly great. Add to that the fact that other OEMs are now starting to release Snapdragon 855-fueled phones with newer options such as in-display fingerprint scanner and 5G compatibility.
Perhaps, that’s why Google has brought back the Black Friday discount, except that now it extends to both the devices. Google has reduced the price of unlocked variants of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL by $200. This means that the 64GB variant of the Pixel 3 is now available for $599 (except for the Just Black version, which costs $699) while the 128GB model costs $699. Similarly, the 64GB version of the Pixel 3 XL is retailing at $699 while the 128GB variant is fetching $799.
Google hasn’t stated why an immediate $200 discount has been introduced, but it is possible it is due to lackluster sales. The technology giant was recently reported to be downsizing its tablet division, and to prop up sales, it could be introducing price reductions, just like Apple has introduced trade-in offers for its 2018 iPhone lineup. However, if you read through the fine print, you’ll notice that these discounts are for a limited-time period, but then again, Apple said the same thing, but we kept on seeing extensions regarding its trade-in offers.
“Get $200 off Pixel 3/3 XL. Starts March 14, 2019 at 12am PT and ends March 31, 2019 at 11:59pm PT, while supplies last and subject to availability. US residents only. Must be 18 years or older. Unless otherwise stated, offer cannot be combined with other offers and is not transferable. Purchase must be made on Google Store US. Not valid for cash or cash equivalent. Void where prohibited.”
The discount applies if you get the phones from the Google Store, although it might be a better idea to get them at Target or Best Buy if you are okay with device payments plan as you would be paying less in the long run. The discount period could also be introduced to encourage some eyes on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL while Google prepares its Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, but there’s no telling when they will officially launch.
For now, we’ll recommend you to monitor these discounts and if you have extra cash at hand, get one of these devices.
