Xiaomi unveils the 5G Mi Mix 3 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 for €599

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 was announced towards the end of 2018 as the first smartphone with a slider design, giving it a nearly bezel-less display. (It was joined shortly after by the Honor Magic 2.) Shortly after it launched in China, we heard that the company was planning on releasing an upgraded model with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and support for 5G networks. The smartphone has since made its way to Spain, Italy, the UK, and other parts of Europe, but we’ve now received confirmation that Xiaomi will re-release the Mi Mix 3 with an upgraded chipset and connectivity.

At Mobile World Congress 2019, Xiaomi took to the stage to announce the new revision of the Mi Mix 3 slider phone. The company just got through announcing the Mi 9, Mi 9 Transparent Edition, and Mi 9 SE, so I didn’t expect them to unveil an entirely new device today. That being said, the Mi Mix 3 is a beautifully designed device as we found in both our video and written reviews. Thus, I’m not too disappointed that the Mi Mix 3 is returning with upgraded internals even though I would have preferred to see a 5G Mi 9 to compete with the 5G Samsung Galaxy S10+.

To refresh your memory, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 has a 6.39-inch Samsung-manufactured AMOLED panel, a 24MP front-facing camera joined by a 2MP depth-sensing camera, a 12MP wide-angle primary rear camera joined by a 12MP telephoto lens, and runs Android Pie-based MIUI 10. The Mi Mix 3 5G will, of course, retain the ceramic body and slider design from the original model. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the Google Assistant button will be found on the new model. Xiaomi briefly showed a slide with the 5G Mi Mix 3’s specifications on stage, showing that the upgraded model will have a larger 3,800mAh battery. Lastly, the 5G model ships with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem, as the newly announced 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem will ship on devices in late 2019. Other than that, the specifications are identical to the original Mi Mix 3.

The 5G Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will be available in Onyx Black and Sapphire Blue for €599 starting in May. The device will be sold through Mi stores, Mi.com, and official retail channels. The device will be compatible with Three, Orange, Sunrise, Telefonica, Telecom Italia, Vodafone, and more. We’ll find out more about the device as we approach its launch date.
