Companies are gearing up to launch their latest and greatest handsets at MWC 2019. The LG K40 is one such device, which is the latest smartphone to appear briefly on the Google Android Enterprise Recommended list of smartphones. The K series of smartphones from the South Korean manufacturer is the most inexpensive, featuring low-end specifications at a decent price. Right above the K series is the Q series, with the G series and the V series at the top. The LG K40 has a model number of LM-X420 and has some stand-out features above other handsets.
First and foremost, unlike other cheaper smartphones, the LG K40 has both NFC and a fingerprint scanner. Many device makers opt to remove NFC in their cheaper smartphones, and some even omit any form of biometric unlocking. The inclusion of both means that you can use your device to pay for things in stores, but you can also unlock your device with ease. Looking past that, the LG K40 appears to be your typical budget smartphone. A (presumably) low-end chipset, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. The LG K30 featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 and a 720p display, so we can probably expect something similar here. The LG K40 has a 5.7-inch display, though we don’t know what resolution.
The LG K40, according to the Google Android Enterprise Recommended list, will also launch with Android 8.1 Oreo. It’s a basic smartphone with basic functionality, and it’ll do the job to handle calls, texts, and other things. Being a part of the Android Enterprise Recommended list means that it’s expected to get frequent software updates (within 90 days of release) and remain close to stock Android. That also means it is expected to get three years of security updates, another big addition for enterprise customers. Smartphones sold for the enterprise are more likely to be flagships, although budget enterprise smartphones have a place in the market as well. While LG is expected to launch bigger and better things at MWC (such as a 5G smartphone and the LG G8 ThinQ), there’s always room for a budget flagship or two as well.
