Smartphone OEMs have different series of devices within their company so they can create brands that target a specific audience. Normally these stay within the company, but there are times when these end up branching out from the core company as we’ve seen with OnePlus, Redmi, Realme, and others. LG has a number of various smartphone series within their company with the K series being one that has historically targetted the budget customers. It looks as if they are preparing to release a new device in this series called the K12+ and we have learned about some of the hardware they will use for it.
The LG K series began three years ago with the LG K7 and during that year the company released 5 other devices within this series. Even though LG Mobile has been losing hundreds of millions each year, the company stayed focused on this series and ended up releasing 5 devices (which were simply 2017 variants of the LG K3, LG K4, LG K7, LG K8, and the LG K10). Things were dialed back a bit last year when their mobile division lost over $700 million, but the LG K series is still alive in 2019 and the LG K12+ looks to be the next device in the series.
After digging through the Google Play Developer Console Device Catalog we discovered a new smartphone in this series with the model number mmh4. From the few details revealed in this catalog we have learned that this smartphone will have a 720p 18:9 aspect ratio display, come equipped with 3GB of RAM, and the MediaTek MT6762 chipset. The 720p display means it will have a DPI of 280 (by default) and it will be shipping with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The MediaTek MT6762 SoC comes with 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz. These will be paired with the PowerVR GE8320 GPU clocked at 650MHz.
