Scalebound Switch Allegedly Being Resurrected as Switch Exclusive, NintendoInsider Claims; Kotaku’s Jason Schreier Chimes In

Scalebound Switch

The cancelled Microsoft exclusive Scalebound is now said to have been resurrected as a Switch exclusive, if NintendoInsider is to be believed.

Yesterday we reported that Nintendo is said to have plans to revive a dead and buried game, and according to NintendoInsider, this game is actually Scalebound. “I have confidence in my sources to report that it is my understanding that Scalebound has been resurrected as a project to be released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive”, the website writes. “Given Microsoft’s previous involvement, it remains unclear to me whether development has been completely rebooted from scratch or, at the least, its ambition scaled back – seeing as it’s now destined for the nimble, but less powerful, portable home console.”

As far as we know, Microsoft still owns the rights to the property although the game’s trademark appears to have been abandoned as of 2017. While it does sound unlikely that a Microsoft-owned property is being revived as a Switch exclusive, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier appears to have heard rumors about the game coming to the Switch as well.

“I’ll add to this that “Scalebound is coming to Switch” was absolutely a rumor floating around last summer”, he wrote on the ResetEra forums.

While Schreier doesn’t rule out the possibility of the game coming to Nintendo’s latest platform, he also expressed his doubts about Scalebound developer Platinum Games developing another Switch exclusive. “Anyway, didn’t Platinum literally just announce an action game with co-op multiplayer as a Switch exclusive?”, Schreier wrote. “ I guess it’s possible that Nintendo is also paying for Scalebound, but why would they bother? My guess — and please be clear that this is a guess; I am not confirming or denying anything — is that Platinum re-used a lot of Scalebound’s design and tech for Astral Chain, and people are just getting their wires crossed.”

Based on what we’ve seen, Scalebound didn’t run too well on the Xbox One and making the title perform smoothly on the less powerful Switch will be quite the task.
