Samsung Unpacked is generally known for launching phones. However, this year, Samsung decided to launch a couple of watches and a new pair of earbuds alongside the Galaxy S10 family. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active and Samsung Galaxy Fit are the newest devices to join Samsung’s line of wearables. The Samsung Galaxy Buds are the newest earbuds and successor to the Samsung Gear Icon X 2018.
Samsung Galaxy Buds
The Galaxy Buds are Samsung’s answer to the Apple AirPods and the successor to the Samsung Gear Icon X. Those older earbuds were designed for fitness use. The first generation even had a heart rate monitor. The Galaxy Buds are very similar to last year’s model. They come in at 5.6g per earbud and the included carrying case ensures you won’t lose them.
These earbuds have 58mAh batteries and the carrying case doubles as a charger. It has a 252mAh battery which can be charged via USB Type-C or wirelessly through any Qi-compatible wireless charger or through Wireless Power Share from the Galaxy S10 phones. You should be able to get 6 hours of Bluetooth streaming and up to 5 hours of calls. The charging case can provide a little over 1.5 hours with a quick 15-minute charge. Bixby is also onboard so you can use your voice to get things done.
The Galaxy Buds will cost $129.99 and come in Black and White. They will be available starting March 8th and you will be able to get them as a pre-order gift with any Galaxy S10 or Galaxy S10+ in the United States as well.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is the spiritual successor to the Gear Sport. This watch brings a completely new look to Samsung’s watch lineup, removing the front bezel which has been present since the Gear S2. This is replaced for a more sleek and modern design and a slightly smaller 1.1-inch display compared to the 1.2-inch display of the Samsung Gear Sport. The Watch Active is also slightly thicker at 10.5mm.
The watch’s specs are very interesting too. It comes with an Exynos 9110, 230 mAh battery, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, 768GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a heart rate monitor, and a stress sensor. The stress sensor is something that has been included in Samsung phones for a while.
The software on this watch is a new version of Tizen 4.0.0.3. This software is designed with the One UI aesthetics in mind. The icons are very similar, if not the same. Of course, it also has Bixby, which is actually a big upgrade over S Voice on Tizen 4.0.0.2, which is currently on the Samsung Gear Sport.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active will launch for $199.99 and be available for purchase on March 8th in Silver, Black, Rose Gold, and Sea Green. Pre-orders start at 12:01 AM EST on February 21st and will include a free wireless charging pad.
Samsung Galaxy Fit
The Samsung Galaxy Fit is Samsung’s newest fitness band. There is a big distinction between the Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit. The Galaxy Watch Active is a smartwatch with fitness features while the Galaxy Fit is a fitness tracker with smartwatch features. The Galaxy Fit has a 0.95-inch inch AMOLED display, 120 mAh battery, Samsung’s proprietary Realtime OS, NFC, 5ATM water resistance, a heart rate monitor,
The Samsung Galaxy Fit will be available in Q2 of 2019 in Black and Silver. Samsung did not share pricing information about the Galaxy Fit.
