Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ FCC docs reveal WiFi 6 support, Reverse Wireless Charging

Samsung Unpacked will kick off on February 20th, 2019. At the event, Samsung will officially unveil the new Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+. Before releasing these devices in the United States, Samsung needs to run many network certification tests through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). For the most part, the FCC filings that are made public before the launch of new device(s) don’t give us a lot of information. However, the filings do show all the connectivity information about the device(s). That’s exactly what the FCC filings for the Samsung Galaxy S10 series has revealed.

Shown below are three charts comparing the connectivity differences between the North American Samsung Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ models. These charts list all the LTE bands that the devices will support. The fourth device column in each chart shown below is the demo model, which is why there are so many N/A for the radio and air interfaces. In general, the Samsung Galaxy S10 series will have the same connectivity support as the Samsung Galaxy S9 series.

NFC, Bluetooth, MST (for Samsung Pay), LTE bands, VoLTE, VoWIFI, GPS are unchanged. However, the FCC filings show that the device has support for WiFi 6, 802.11ax. This is the newest WiFi protocol which supports faster speeds and better range. The only downside of 802.11ax is that you need a supported router, so this won’t be that useful for most people. Qualcomm’s next-generation WiFi chips, which may be found in the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, are expected to be included in many 2019 flagship smartphones.

Furthermore, another document called “Wireless Power Transfer” reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will support “receiv[ing] or transmit[ting] an AC power signal through magnetic induction (MI) or magnetic resonance (MR).” This supports the rumor that the Galaxy S10 series will support reverse wireless charging.
