Realme 3 will come with a MediaTek Helio P70 in India and P60 in other markets

In less than a year since its launch, smartphone brand Realme has made its mark in India. It entered the list of top 5 smartphone brands in the country and even knocked its parent OPPO out of the fourth position. The company has already released six devices in the entry-level and budget segments – including Realme 1 released under OPPO’s branding. Now, comes the confirmation that it will release another new device i.e. Realme 3 very soon.

Realme 3, the upcoming smartphone from the brand, will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P70 SoC. Realme’s CEO, Madhav Sheth, recently shared the information on Twitter while also counting its benefits over the Snapdragon 660. However, the company has used both the processors on its earlier devices – the Helio P70 on the Realme U1 and the Snapdragon 660 on the Realme 2 Pro.

While the executive can be seen boasting about lower power consumption and marginally better performance of the Helio P70, the real reason behind this decision seems to be the cost. The MediaTek chipset could help Realme limit the price of the smartphone to around ₹10,000 ($140).

For the non-Indian variants of the Realme 3, the company confirmed to Android Authority that it will be using a Helio P60 chipset, instead.

Realme will also be reintroducing the characteristic diamond-cut design, which was seen on devices such as the Realme 1 and the Realme 2. However, the etchings on the back easily give away to the fact that this is just a protective case with the diamond cut design. The actual device inside the cover appears to have a color gradient on its back, with shades of blue varying between aqua and cobalt blue. The teaser also confirms that the Realme 3 will also feature dual rear cameras and a fingerprint sensor at the back.

The Helio P70, which powers the Realme 3, is an octa-core chipset build with a 12nm process. It uses a fast cluster of four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and a power-saving cluster with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 2.0GHz. Further, it has a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU and a multi-core APU clocked at 525MHz to support processes that use AI.

In case of dual cameras, as confirmed for the Realme 3, the highest camera resolution supported by Helio P70 is 24MP+16MP. The chipset also supports 4K recording at 30fps while the APU helps in recognizing scenes and objects better. But do note that these are the highest possible specifications supported by the Helio P70 SoC and Realme could choose slightly lower specs.

Realme has not announced a launch date for the Realme 3 but rumors are pointing towards an unveiling in March. In the meantime, we will update you with each bit of information we receive about the Realme 3.
