The Android Pie update for the Razer Phone 2 is just around the corner. The unlocked Razer Phone 2 units will receive the update on the 27th of February. In the announcement article, I mentioned that the update was pretty much bare bones with only the typical Android Pie features. Razer didn’t really didn’t bring anything unique to the table. At least that’s what we thought, because on the surface Android 9 on the Razer Phone 2 looks exactly the same as Android Oreo, apart from Pie-specific features like navigation gestures and refined UI.
Our Editor-in-Chief, Mishaal Rahman, found out that Razer silently added 4K60fps video recording to the Razer Phone 2. Surprisingly, the press release of the update didn’t mention anything about this addition. It is very easy to activate the new mode. All you have to do is open the camera, switch to video recording, and above the shooter button, tap on the second icon to change the resolution, then the fifth icon to change the framerate. Here is the screenshot:
In the previous version of Android, the Razer Phone 2 could only capture 2160p (4K) video at 30 frames per second. The time limitation of 4k60fps recording is currently unknown, but we’re working to identify it. It is unclear why Razer decided to not make the availability of this long-awaited feature more public. Whatever the case is, we’re happy that this perfectly capable device can now use more of its potential.
