Motorola launches the Moto G7, Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Power and Moto G7 Plus

Motorola’s G-series redefined what consumers expected out of budget devices back when the original Moto G was launched in 2013. Now, six years later, we are down to the 7th generation of Motorola’s budget lineup as Motorola struggles to retain its market share from the onslaught of budget offerings from Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi, Oppo, and others. At an event in Brazil, Motorola has introduced to us the new Moto G7 series, consisting of the Moto G7, Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Power, and the Moto G7 Plus.

The Moto G7 lineup starts off with the Moto G7 Play, which is the cheapest and lowest spec’d device in the lineup. The Moto G7 Power follows next, adding on more battery to give you a device that is hard to kill through daily use. The Moto G7 follows after that, bumping up the style quotient with a more modern water drop style notch, and switching up some other key specifications. The Moto G7 Plus is the most expensive of the lot, bringing in a lot of upgrades over the Moto G7.

There are a few features that are common across all four phones. The phones have a common design, for the most part, featuring glass backs (the G7 Play has a plastic back). All the devices sport P2i nano-coating for water protection (as per the official website, although several hands-on reviews do not mention this water-repellent coating being present on the Play and the Power). The phones also come with Android Pie out of the box along with Moto Experiences addition. You get features such as One Button Nav, Three Finger Screenshot gesture (now with rolling screenshot functionality), as well as other additions such as Attentive Display, Fast Flashlight gestures, and Quick Capture.

For the Moto G7 Plus, Motorola has added on a few more things. The phone offers a stereo speaker setup. To make the phone competitive in the photography department, the G7 Plus also features OIS on its dual rear cameras. There are also software features such as AI Smart Composition and Auto Smile Capture to make it easy to capture good photos.
